My Quit Date

choos-a-date
  • Choose a day in the next 2 weeks. It’ll give you enough time to plan/prepare.
  • Pick a date that isn’t likely to be stressful. This will set you up for success.
  • Tell friends and family about the date. Quitting smoking is easier when the people in your life support you.

I smoked a pack of menthols a day for 48 years. I started having breathing problems and was in and out of the hospital. After the last episode, I broke down crying. I looked at my husband and said, “I want to quit smoking!!” He said, “So do I!” The next day we called 1-800-NO-BUTTS. They were so caring and understanding. I used the patches and, with my husband’s support and my support for him, we have both been smoke-free. If it wasn’t for 1-800-NO-BUTTS, I would most likely be dead.

“I thought that if I didn’t buy cigarettes I didn’t have a problem, but I discovered I just made friends with people who smoked. I hid it from my kids who knew all along what I was doing. I was ashamed and disappointed in myself. That’s when I knew I had to stop. I could not have done it without this program. It saved my life!”
